Great Start to Quality - The Quality Rating System

The state's new quality rating system is beginning. Every provider is starting out with one star. You can add more stars by doing a self assessment survey to evaluate your program - this will be available this month. You can read all about it in your profile in the Great Start Connect database. You will need your email address and your password to get in to look at the information. There is a new tab with a star on it - you can read up all about this program and what it really means - improving and providing quality childcare for children.

Playground Safety

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has developed resources and training programs for playground safety. Their initiatives have helped to train and inform professionals and the public on playground safety issues at the highest national standards--ensuring that children across the U.S. have access to safe, challenging, and fun play environments. Attached you will find the publication “The Dirty Dozen - 12 Playground Hazards” and a tip sheet for parents using public playgrounds. You may be eligible for a T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship

Work a minimum of 20 hours per week in a licensed child care center, group home or registered family home.
Earn $14.25 or less per hour as a teacher, assistant, or aide.
Earn $15.00 or less per hour after expenses as a family home provider or a group home owner.
Earn $15.00 or less per hour as a director.

You may be eligible for a T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship.
There have been changes to the BA and Baker scholarship models recently.
