Child Development Associate Apprenticeship Program

The Child Development Associate (CDA) Apprenticeship Program through Southwest Child Care Resources offers a free, accessible pathway for individuals to grow as early childhood professionals while earning nationally recognized credentials.

This ten-month program blends classroom learning with on-the-job experience, requiring 2,000 hours of combined training and practice. Apprentices gain both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to thrive in today’s early learning environments.

Outcomes

Graduates of the program earn both the CDA Credential and an Apprenticeship Certification, strengthening their career opportunities and contributing to a more qualified child care workforce. Once the required hours are completed, apprentices may also obtain up to 9 college credits toward an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education through Kellogg Community College.

Commitment & Support

Participants commit to a ten-month program that balances coursework with on-the-job learning. Financial support for related expenses may be available through the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Michigan Scholarship Program. Applications are required for enrollment, and space is limited.
